Subject: Fall Colours
Let me look out from inner desolation
at this green world now set alight by fire
that is a living, breathing conflagration,
subsuming all with seasonal desire
to gird for winter’s northern juggernaut
that’s gaining speed across the Arctic ice:
slow ponderous steps, and Summer’s war is fought
to standstill, now retreat, and in a trice
we’ll be knee deep in dry white powder snow
for months on end. Yet while this season lasts,
this beautiful transition, let us go
now you and I to see the colours pass.
All changes bring both beauty and distress
But friendship’s strong against time’s long duress.
