I await in high anticipation
the revelation of your costume choice:
I hope you will succumb to some temptation
and let your inner self have outer voice!
In every human culture there’s a time,
a festival where Lord Misrule presides,
a Mardis Gras, a Saturnal sublime
when people put propriety aside.
For us it’s Halloween, when dead men walk:
the dead who are inside us, who get out,
and tell their secrets in symbolic talk
of costume and of character, no doubt.
So choose your costume carefully, my dear,
for it reveals your inner hopes and fears!
