To open on the stage with you beside
me is a dream come true despite our trials:
a pleasure that was not to be denied
by ghosts or Lady Luck’s demented wiles!
Although our costumes are ridiculous,
dressed up like superheros set to fly
the playwright’s language, strong, meticulous,
kept us from the pan where failure’s fry.
The audience was with us from the off
drawn by the sympathy one gives to fools
who are sincere in their eccentric froth
who realize they are some Muse’s tools.
Far from disaster, opening night was great:
As if at last we’re smiled upon by Fate.
