Subject: Opening Night
This is the night we’ve all be dreading long
come now upon us! Now we face the crowd,
discover if our dear director’s wrong,
though he won’t be there strutting and so proud!
He’s said that all is ready and he’ll step
back into the shadows where he’ll wait
to see if all our work and endless prep
will be enough to carry his dead weight.
I will confess to jitters of a kind
that go beyond the usual on the night
as I feel the risk we’re taking grind
my confidence to atoms, small and slight.
But with you at my side upon the stage
I know we will the audience engage.
