Date: Monday, March 1st
To plunge right back into the dull mundane
routine of everyday life of the grad
student is cooking wine after champagne:
coarse raw, disgusting; not a little sad.
The sudden shock of stepping into slush
after sunny beaches for a week
squeezes like a fist to slowly crush
the happy thoughts I was about to speak.
Or perhaps it’s parting from your side
that puts me in this mood so dark and foul:
a lesson to prepare for students snide
keeps me from my love. It is to howl!
Yet in my heart there is a magic glow
That tells mundane reality to go.
