Subject: The Crucial Experiment
I’ve spent the day preparing for our feast
with finest wines and complex spicy food
prepared all manner of the birds and beasts
to set the evening’s long romantic mood.
Be easy in your mind, we’ll take it slow
we’ll talk and laugh and see where feelings roam
we’ll wonder where the fleeting hours did go
we’ll find a place where love can find a home
or not. For all experiments can fail
to find the thing that they are looking for,
although the scientists might cry and wail
and beat their heads upon the lab’s hard door.
I am prepared for any such result
Although there’s one that would make me exult.
